The silence of the new TFL London/ Urban Electric Bus was the perfect canvas upon which to reshape the sound of the city. Zelig was tasked with creating the sound of the London urban bus (Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System); a project which contained a myriad of cultural opportunities and technical challenges. What should the future of London sound like? How can the sound help to make the city safer? The voices of a diverse range of stakeholders were included – commuters, walkers, cyclists, drivers, the visually impaired and many more – to come together to make a lasting mark on the city’s soundscape.
